Houston Texans have received a tough blow midweek that is not only going to hamper them but their rookie quarterback as well.

According to Ian Rapoport, G Tytus Howard is set to undergo surgery on his knee that is going to cause him to miss the rest of the 2023 season.

Howard suffered the knee injury in Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a game that the Texans lost, 24-21.

It is a tough blow for the Texans, as Howard has allowed just one sack this season. Even if he hasn’t graded out the best, the veteran has at least been stable for Houston.

Over the last five seasons, Howard has started all 61 games that he has played in with Houston. The Texans selected him in the first round back in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama State.

Howard missed the first four games this season with a broken hand. Before the season, Howard inked a three-year deal worth $56 million.

Rookie G Juice Scruggs played in place of Howard on Sunday and will be the guy going forward. Scruggs missed the first 10 games of the season with a hamstring injury that kept him on the injured reserve. Houston selected Scruggs in the second round out of Penn State.

It’s an unfortunate happening for the Texans, who sit at 6-5 and are in the midst of a push for the playoffs that not many saw coming.
