Texans sign LT Laremy Tunsil to another historic contract
The Houston Texans left tackle is staying put as the team takes care of one of their biggest free agency goals.
With just one year left on his contract, the Houston Texans had to reach a decision regarding Laremy Tunsil's future. There even were reports early in the opening week of free agency about a potential trade to the Kansas City Chiefs.
But ultimately, the Texans are securing their guy as they've signed him to a three-year deal worth $75 million, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The contract makes Tunsil the highest-paid offensive tackle in NFL history.
The details of the contract are even more impressive. The Texans are giving Tunsil $50 million fully guaranteed and $60 million in total guarantees. On average, the left tackle's new deal will earn him $25 million per year.
At just 28 years old, Tunsil emerges as a big winner as the contract is only three years long. That gives him the opportunity to cash in yet again in his career. By the way, this isn't his first time becoming the highest-paid left tackle in history as he had already done that back in 2020.
What makes all of it even better is the fact that Tunsil represented himself in negotiations. How can you not love his story?
For now, the Texans have an elite left tackle to protect the blindside of whoever they pick with the No. 2 overall pick in April.
