Back in late March, I published a piece titled "Texans Free Agency: What about former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney?"

It would seem that Clowney, who had three Pro Bowl seasons and one second-team All-Pro season with the Houston Texans, wonders the same these days. When asked about the possibility during an interview with Fox 26's Mark Berman.

"It would be nice," Clowney told Berman. "All my family is here. Friends are here. The guys I work out with can help me take care of my body a lot better by being right up under them."

Per Berman, the Texans and Clowney did have one conversation during this offseason. While that doesn't necessarily mean the franchise is interested in a reunion, Clowney seems to be buying into what HC DeMeco Ryans is selling.

"I see they're putting the pieces together," he said. "I'm a big fan of their new head coach. They've got some guys up front I think can go, Maliek (Collins) and they just got the rookie (Will Anderson) this year. It'll be a big thing to see what they do this year."

"We'll see what happens," added Clowney.

Clowney could be a controversial signing among fans for the wrong reason. While it's true that the former Texans' No. 1 overall pick didn't meet the crazy expectations set by a remarkable career in college, he has been a productive edge rusher in the NFL at multiple stops.

He'd be an inexpensive target that can provide depth at worst and an immediate impact rotational player at best.

"Clowney still flashes his tantalizing No. 1 overall pick talent just enough to make him an intriguing option for many teams," writes Pro Football Focus in their free agency rankings, where the former Texan is currently ranked as the best available free agent. "Clowney – always a stout run defender and strong edge setter – also missed just 7.4% of potential tackles, his first season below 12.5% since 2016."
