The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered some brutal news against the Cincinnati Bengals. But the situation actually looked much worse than it was. Trevor Lawrence, whose leg was bent behind his body, ended up with just a high ankle sprain.
But this could mean the Jaguars will be without Lawrence for at least a game. Then again, we saw Patrick Mahomes get a high ankle sprain against the Jaguars and then play the very next week and actually finish out that game.
If the Jaguars do have to use their backup, C.J. Beathard will likely be the guy unless the Jaguars bring in someone else. Beathard played for Lawrence when the injury occurred and looked alright. He played through an injury to what looked to be his hand.
Beathard has been in the league as a backup for a long time. So, Doug Pederson says he has 100% confidence in him.
"He did a nice job of getting us down the field there and tying the football game," Pederson said to reporters after the loss. "It should have been the game-winning field goal, but it wasn't. But I have a lot of confidence in C.J. [Beathard]. He's a veteran player and has played a lot of football. If he happens to be the guy, then we will get behind him and support him."
Fans may not like to hear that, because they don't feel confident with Beathard. In fact, some fans think it would be better to go pick up someone else. And, I mean, that is fair because the head coach is supposed to say he has confidence in Beathard. He isn't going to just straight up say he doesn't.
Beathard played well, though. He had one play that, had Anton Harrison not held on the play, would have set up the Jaguars to win the game. It was a pretty nice play, too; a throw off one foot rolling to the right, deep 40 yards to Calvin Ridley.
