The Jacksonville Jaguars' week is off to a historic start as the franchise finally inaugurated its new training facilities in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Miller Electric Center.
At the event, those in attendance heard from Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, as well as Jaguars' president Mark Lamping, owner Shad Khan, and head coach Doug Pederson. Miller Electric CEO Henry Brown also introduced the facilities.
It's a massive step in Jaguars' history as it's one of the few franchises which has its stadium double as its training facility. Since 1995, when the team was founded, the Jags hadn't had facilities destined for training and training only. That's what Miller Electric Center is for.
The push for upgraded facilities started when Urban Meyer was hired by the Jags in 2021. That's right, there are positives about the Meyer era year in Jacksonville.
"We’re having a serious conversation about a facility here, a brand-new facility,” Meyer told reporters a couple of years ago via Jacksonville.com. "You’re talking about Jacksonville, Florida … no state tax and all of the above … weather. I want this to be the destination place in the National Football League.''
Part of what will make the Jaguars' new facilities so special is a state-of-the-art locker room, a players'' lounge, a new weight room, and training and recovery areas.
In true Urban Meyer style, the Jaguars' new facility includes a wall of college football helmets that will feature each week's Top 25 teams.
Jaguars rookies will report to training camp on Friday the 21st with veterans following next Tuesday. The 2023 NFL season is very close, my friends.
