The Las Vegas Raiders play in the heat, in Nevada. Well, it's hot in the summer. In the winter, I wouldn't really say it gets cold.
However, they do play in some pretty cold places. This weekend on Christmas Eve, they will be in Pittsburgh against the Steelers, a place that is known to be pretty cold in the winter. Well, way colder than Las Vegas.
But head coach Josh McDaniels isn't worried about the weather on the 50th anniversary of the immaculate reception.
"Fortunately for me – or unfortunately maybe – I've been in a whole bunch of cold weather, East Coast late-in-the-year type games," McDaniels said on Wednesday. "Whether it's temperature, wind, snow, rain – whatever it is. I mean look, we have no control over the weather.
"We're not playing the weather, we're playing the Steelers. Our preparation is going to be solely focused on them. If something in the weather would dictate – 50-mile-per-hour winds, or something like that – obviously you need to be ready to adjust accordingly.
Coaching in Foxborough for 17 years of his career will make you get used to the brutal conditions. New England has played some snow, rain, wind, mud, and anything else you can think of, games. I'm sure Saturday won't be that much of a big deal.
In Pittsburgh, on Saturday the high is 11 degrees and the low is three, according to AccuWeather. That is brutal, no matter where you have played before. Usually, though, teams that play in domes at home and on the road like the Raiders have. Eight of the Raiders 14 games have been played in a dome or an indoor stadium.
Las Vegas has only played in three cold weather locations so far this season, and none of them were lower than 20 degrees. This will be a lot different than what they are used to.
Either way, it seems he and his team are not fazed by what the weather will be like come Christmas Eve.
