The best player for the Las Vegas Raiders isn't who most expected it to be this season.
No, it hasn't been Davante Adams. And no, it hasn't been Derek Carr. Through the first five weeks, Las Vegas' best player has been running back Josh Jacobs, who has carried the load offensively in critical situations.
He's currently ranked No. 3 in running backs, according to Pro Football Focus. And against the Kansas City Chiefs, he amassed a career-high rushing yards total (154). So, it's no surprise that Jacobs is in the top three when it comes to making defenders miss through the first five weeks, according to Pro Football Focus.
Jacobs has totaled 619 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. But it's his play over the last three weeks that has been the most impressive. In his last three contests, he's totaled 465 yards, averaging nearly 5.9 yards per carry.
Despite doubts about his role entering the season because the Raiders expected to use a running back by committee approach, that hasn't been the case. Jacobs had a combined 59 touches over the last two weeks.
And if Las Vegas continues to utilize his skillset, the 1-4 start can turn around soon.
