Coming into the season, Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was seen as replaceable by many.
The team did not pick up his fifth-year option. Fantasy football gurus had already given his starting job to Zamir White and the other running backs in the Raiders' backfield.
Alas, Jacobs is off to the best start of his career. Statistically, he is among the best in the NFL at his position through five games.
The Raiders have needed that from him, and he has delivered.
Jacobs has been a consistent bright spot in an inconsistent Raiders' offense.
He set a new career record for rushing yards in a game against the Chiefs in Week 5 with 154 yards.
Behind a mediocre offensive line, Jacobs has still found success. The Raiders' offensive line has improved over the past couple of his weeks, so his production could continue to improve as well.
Jacobs is proving that he is a valuable RB for a guy with his skillset. If he isn't with the Raiders next season, another team could get a very solid running back for a fair price in free agency.
It will be interesting to see what the Raiders do if he continues this type of production throughout the season. So far, Jacobs has been impressive.
