Following the release of quarterback Derek Carr, the Las Vegas Raiders officially have a quarterback question.
One route to improving that position is through trade. And the Raiders have been linked to Aaron Rodgers because he fits the bill of a veteran quarterback, which head coach Josh McDaniels has stated he wants. Another option, however, is through the NFL Draft.
If the Raiders elect to draft a quarterback, it could serve as a sign that the organization is willing to wait to win. But if the Raiders choose to trade for an established veteran or sign one in free agency, it signals that Las Vegas is looking to win now. Either way, what is certain is a new quarterback is heading to town. And in the latest Tankathon NFL mock draft, they have Las Vegas selecting Will Levis at pick No. 7.
What type of player is Will Levis?
Levis played his college ball at Kentucky. Last season he threw for 2,406 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had a quarterback rating of 151.9 and completed 65 percent of his passes.
Levis fits the bill of a "prototype" quarterback. He has a strong arm and holds the ability to elevate the talent around him. But his greatest strength — his confidence — is also a weakness.
At times, in trying to do too much, Levis can force throws which leads to interceptions. He tries everything, at least once. At times it can lead to highlights. And at other times, it can lead to almost head-scratching interceptions.
If the Raiders elect to draft Levis at No. 7, he has the potential to be a franchise quarterback. But he also has major bust potential as well.
