The Raiders' secondary isn't the worst in the league by any means, but Marcus Peters certainly isn't the reason they are better now than they were before him. He has had an awful start to the season in terms of blown coverages, getting beat in man, and, worst of all, and I know every Raider fan will agree with this; he hasn't wanted to tackle.
If you are going to wear the No. 24, a famous number in this franchise worn by Charles Woodson and Willie Brown, then you better play well. Peters has not. Although, he did do something pretty cool on Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.
Peters made history.
According to the Raiders' PR team, Peters made history in a few different ways. Here are some of the things they tweeted out:
Peters notches his seventh career interception returned for a touchdown. Peters now has 33 career interceptions since entering the league in 2015, the most in the NFL over that span. Peters has also become one of 32 defenders in NFL history to record 33 interceptions in their first 112 career games. Peters notched the eighth defensive touchdown of his career (7 interceptions returned for a touchdown, one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown). He has become one of only 12 players in the NFL since 2000 with 8+ defensive touchdowns. Peters is also just the 20th player in NFL history with 7+ interceptions returned for a touchdown.
The Raiders did not have a good night overall, but their defense did have some bright moments. Without that pick-six, the game would have been a lot worse, for sure.
