If you watched this Las Vegas Raiders team last season, specifically at the beginning of the season, then you know that they struggled mightily on the offensive line at the beginning of the year and picked it up toward the end.
In Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers last season, the Raiders allowed Derek Carr to get sacked six times, much like Khalil Mack's six sacks against the Raiders by himself. The Chargers, as a whole, finished with seven on Sunday.
The Raiders had 11 sacks given up through the first four games last season, which isn't terrible, but it's certainly not good. They also struggled to get the run game going during that time last year.
Josh Jacobs was the league leader in rushing yards last season, but just like this year, he got off to a slow start last season, too. In the first three games of the 2022 season, Jacobs didn't break 70 rushing yards in a game. Then, in Week 4, 5, and 6, he had 140 rushing yards in each game.
This season, he has yet to break 70 rushing yards, but in the last game, he had 138 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown. But, as we said, last season, the offensive line ended up getting things going and became one of the best run-blocking offensive lines in the league and a middle-of-the-pack pass-blocking offensive line.
So, if the recent trend tells us anything, it's that the issue will get fixed; we just don't know when. Offensive lines are known to start seasons slow, especially in the run game, which is where the Raiders have also struggled.
Now, we just wait.
