The Las Vegas Raiders drafted rookie Tyree Wilson with their first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. At first, the pick was fine for Raiders fans. Everyone was excited to have another potential star across from Maxx Crosby.
Then the foot injury surfaced again, and he missed the majority of training camp. When he first played, everyone was worried that he would not be what he was supposed to be, considering where he was drafted.
He has been fine since but hasn't really had that one game that would make you say wow yet, whereas several other rookies in the league have, especially a few the Raiders passed on.
Jalen Carter, the defensive tackle out of Georgia, was supposed to be taken No. 1 overall but was taken by the Philadelphia Eagles with the ninth overall pick. The Raiders clearly messed up by passing on Carter, who is showing that he is already one of the best defensive tackles in the league.
But Wilson is starting to come into his own. It seems every week, the Raiders rookie is getting better, which you expect from a rookie who missed training camp and was dealing with an injury. His best game yet came in the Raiders worst of the season.
According to Pro Football Focus, which grades players individually based on their own scale, graded Tyree Wilson at an 82.9 overall grade on Sunday, which was not only a career-high for him but the best of any Raiders defender on Sunday. In the last game, he had a sack and two quarterback hits.
So far, through seven games, Wilson has one sack, nine tackles, four of them solo, two quarterback hits, and one forced fumble. His numbers aren't amazing, but they are getting there. You just have to give it time.
