There is plenty of reason for excitement in Miami after the Dolphins hired defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The Dolphins showed their commitment to building a championship product by making Vangio the highest paid coordinator in the NFL.
Details emerged on Friday, outlining the specifics of Fangio’s deal. According to the MMQB’s Albert Breer, Fangio’s contract is a three-year deal. In the contract, Fangio will reportedly collect north of $4.5 million per year.
There were numerous teams in need of a defensive coordinator contending for Fangio’s services. For the Dolphins to shell out some serious dough means the front office believes in investing in head coach Mike McDaniel’s support system.
McDaniel, 39, is the fourth-youngest coach in the NFL. On the other side of the coin, Fangio brings 33 seasons of NFL experience, which includes 18 years as a defensive coordinator. Fangio was named the head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2019, coaching the team to a 19-30 record in his three seasons.
Fangio is the perfect man for the job and should help maximize the potential of rising stars among the Dolphins defense such as Christian Wilkins, Jaelan Phillips, Xavien Howard and Bradley Chubb, who he coached in Denver.
