The Miami Dolphins are entering one of the most intriguing offseason in recent memory. The Dolphins have the talent to compete in the AFC, but many are questioning the durability of Tua Tagovailoa.

With Tagovailoa entering his final year on his rookie deal, the Dolphins aren’t financially dependent on him to start. Now, the team has already come out and said Tua is entering the 2023 season as the starting quarterback, but there is reason to believe Miami could make a splash at the position in free agency.

Tagovailoa’s multiple concussions suffered in 2022 are a major concern. Considering the Dolphins are consistently above average quarterback play away from dethroning the AFC’s top dogs, the team should explore all options to ensure they get production from the position in 2023.

New Carr Scent

NFL Network’s Peter Schrager brought up one of the hottest names in free agency on Tuesday, linking Derek Carr to the Dolphins.

“Miami Dolphins are interesting to me,” Schrager said. “If I’m the Miami Dolphins, I don’t know what the situation is with Tua. I think everyone’s intention is Tua is returning and is the quarterback, but Tua’s in the final year of a contract. He hasn’t gotten that big deal yet. I don’t know anything from the Dolphins’ side of it, but If I’m the Dolphins I’m so close. My roster is so loaded. You bring in Derek Carr to Miami, are they not one of the favorites in the AFC?”

Schrager went on to mention that Miami is likely to bring a veteran quarterback in. If that happens to be Carr it’s certainly a risky move, but it could put the team over the top.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the teams who are expected to show interest in Carr are the Saints, Panthers, Jets, Titans, along with a few others he didn’t name directly. Perhaps the Dolphins could raise some eyebrows and jump in the Carr sweepstakes.
