The Miami Dolphins have a major question mark hovering over its Week 18 matchup against the New York Jets.
With starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa not expected to suit up and Miami’s back-up signal caller Teddy Bridgewater dealing with a dislocated pinkie finger on his throwing hand, the Dolphins are scrambling for a solution before Sunday.
Though the team has a healthy option in its sixth-round rookie Skylar Thompson, it’s better to be safe than sorry. That’s why the Dolphins went out and signed veteran journeyman Mike Glennon to its practice squad on Wednesday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Glennon, 33, is entering his ninth season in the NFL. The Dolphins are his sixth stop, and will provide him with his first chance to play since Week 17 of 2021, when Glennon was filling in for the injured Daniel Jones with the New York Giants.
The quarterback is obviously bare at this point in the season, but Glennon’s experience is what head coach Mike McDaniel prefers. Glennon has 31 starts in his career, but holds an anemic 6-25 record as a starter. His last win came with the Chicago Bears in 2017.
Miami is still holding out hope that Bridgewater can suit up on Sunday, but Glennon is a clear insurance option. If the team is forced to turn to Thompson, Glennon’s veteran presence could be useful in helping guide the rookie in what would be the biggest start of his football career.
