The Dolphins' primary area of weakness just got worse on Monday afternoon.

Per multiple outlets, free agent guard Robert Hunt has agreed to a deal with the Carolina Panthers.  According to Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz, the agreement is a monstrous one: 5 years, $100 million with $63 million guaranteed.

Hunt was drafted by the Dolphins with the 39th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.  He played in all 16 games with 11 starts in his rookie year.  Over the next two seasons, he started all 34 regular season games.  As was the case with most of the offensive line in 2023, he missed multiple games with injury.  A hamstring injury kept him out of 6 games for the season.

Now, the big lineman is off to Charlotte on a massive new contract, which the Dolphins had no chance at hoping to match.  It's the second such $100 million-plus contract that Dolphins players have reportedly agreed to on Monday, with Christian Wilkins also agreeing to a new contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Dolphins appear to be willing to allow their highest priced free agents to head out of town, and at over $30 million over the cap, it's understandable why they can't compete with contracts like this.  They also have several spots to fill on the line and can't allocate a huge sum to any one position, it seems.

They'll have to find an answer to their offensive line woes on a budget and/or through the draft.
