The trade deadline is less than two weeks away. For the Miami Dolphins, they will be getting a huge boost without needing to give anything up.
CB Jalen Ramsey will reportedly return to practice today for the Dolphins, per NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.
Ramsey, the team's primary offseason acquisition, was carted off the practice field back on July 27 after suffering a non-contact knee injury while guarding Tyreek Hill during training camp. The injury turned out to be a meniscus tear which many believed would keep him out until late in the season while the Dolphins were making a playoff push.
That estimation turns out to have overshot the mark by quite a bit.
Ramsey's return to practice will open a 21-day window for him to be activated off of injured reserve and onto the active roster. If he is not activated off the roster by that point, he would go onto the season-ending injured reserve list. As such, the team is obviously quite confident that Ramsey has recovered quickly and effectively enough to where he can use the next three weeks to work himself – and ease his knee – back to getting ready to play.
The Dolphins have the Eagles, Patriots, and Chiefs over the next three weeks. Ramsey obviously won't play on Sunday and might not be ready to go for any of the following two games either. However, the bye week follows the Chiefs game, and Miami faces the Raiders at home on November 19, which seems to be a logical point to target his return.
Ramsey's return will also allow CB Kader Kohou to slide back inside to the nickel cornerback spot, where he is most effective. Accordingly, the Dolphins' secondary should be that much better when the stretch run begins before Thanksgiving.
