The Miami Dolphins have already ruled out QB Tua Tagovailoa for Sunday's game, with rookie QB Skylar Thompson set to make his second consecutive start. Missing what will be his third straight start.
However, as hard as it is to say, football is not the first thing Tua should be thinking about right now. Rather his future with the sport itself.
For the second time this season, Tua is missing multiple games due to concussions. Sever enough to keep him out multiple games. Starting with the issue that the Dolphins staff did a questionable job diagnosing him the first time around until it became obvious.
In most normal situations, a concussion is a one game absence, giving the player enough time to regain full function. As concussions have become a more prevalent topic in the NFL, so have the repercussions as a result.
The consequences of concussions leading to long-term health problems like ALS, more and more players are choosing to end their careers prematurely as a result.
Take a look at former NFL QB Andrew Luck.
Once seen as an elite quarterback destined for greatness. Choosing to retire while still relatively young due to all the hits he had sustained in his career. Concussions not being an exception.
Could Tua be next? The Miami Dolphins have done an excellent job of building a roster with the hopes it should elevate his game, which it has in 2022.
The building injuries and failure to properly protect their quarterback has put everyone in the organization in flux. Not just Tua's career, but a very talented Dolphins' roster and it's future.
Is Tua's career over before it even began? How this weekend goes against the Buffalo Bills will determine if he can even play again this season.
Should they lose, this will be the very first and most important talking point going into the offseason.
