The Miami Dolphins (9-8) have done it! With the Buffalo Bills beating the New England Patriots, as well as the Dolphins win over the New York Jets, it's officical.
Miami is going to the playoff for the first time since 2016!
The quarterback matchup was exactly what we expected of it. Boring. A combined 38/64 for 301 yards and no touchdowns, paved the way for a lot of defense and plenty of field goals.
Including a dramatic final play to clinch the wild card spot for the Dolphins.
Instead, it was the Miami Dolphins running game that was the real difference. The combination of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. combining for 143 yards with 5.3 yards per carry for the game. The team rushed for 162 yards as a team.
With the absence of both Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater, it was important that the Dolphins not only establish the run but thrive. Rookie QB Skylar Thompson needed it in order to take the pressure off his shoulders.
While Thompson didn't air it downfield in the same breathe as Tua, he did complete 20/31 passes. Enough to move the ball, with the running game taking over.
Now, the Miami Dolphins are the seventh seed. Taking on the two-seed Buffalo Bills. A team the Dolphins are 1-1 against, with the average results margin only 2.5-points. Laying the groundwork for an explosive first round.
