The Miami Dolphins (8-4) are coming off a gut-wrenching loss to San Francisco. A game in which the 49ers defensive line held the Dolphins running game to nearly nothing and swallowing QB Tua Tagovailoa in the pocket, causing three turnovers.
Losing the game and moving the Dolphins down to the fifth seed in the AFC playoffs. A wild card spot they are fighting to maintain against another AFC playoffs contender, LA Chargers.
The Chargers have lost four of their last six games, giving up 24 points per game. Even more so, their pass defense is getting eaten alive against opposing QBs ranging from Geno Smith or Derek Carr to Patrick Mahomes.
On the year, the Chargers pass defense ranks near the bottom in the league in many statistical areas.
- 17th most passing yards allowed
- 5th most passing touchdowns allowed
- 11th most passing air yards allowed
- 8th most yards per attempt
- 7th most yards per completion
- 11th highest passer rating allowed
- 7th least passes defended
- 4th highest passing first down percentage allowed
If there was ever a time for a bounce back game for Tagovailoa, it would be this weekend. With the difficulty of the Miami Dolphins remaining schedule, this game can and should be used to get back on track through the air.
WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have combined for well over 2,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on the season and will be big players in the game on Sunday.
The good news for Miami is they're still in contention for the division crown. It's a daunting road but this is a perfectly timed game to get the passing game back on track.
