Cam Akers had his worst fears confirmed on Monday afternoon. Per reports, the back hasa ruptured Achilles tendon and is out for the season.
This is the second time Akers has suffered an Achilles injury as a pro.
The injury came in the third quarter. The back had to be carted to the locker room and the team immediately knew it didn't look good. KOC stated that he thought it was an Achilles injury after the game, and the MRI confirmed as much today.
Akers came to Minnesota from the Rams in September. The back took 38 carries for 138 yards and 1 TD this season for the Vikes. Akers is slated to hit free agency after the season.
Without Akers, the team will likely rely heavily on Mattison. However, the Minnesota ground game has been inefficient all season, so it will be interesting to see if the team pursues another option. Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu are other backs on the roster, while rookie seventh-round pick DeWayne McBride is on the practice squad.
When Akers last suffered an Achilles injury, he didn't even have to miss the entire season. Akers came back in Week 18 of the 2021 season after injuring his Achilles in summer workouts. Hopefully, Akers will be able to recover again and get back on the field at some point.
Vikings appear to have lost another player to an Achilles injury
Another Vikes player appears to have suffered a serious injury.
