Well, we may have spoken too soon. After being encouraged by the lack of names on the injury report Thursday, the Vikings have added a big name on Friday.

Per the latest injury report, edge rusher Marcus Davenport is now listed as questionable for Sunday's game with an ankle injury.

Davenport's late addition to the injury report seems to indicate the injury happened on Friday. The only two players with injury designations prior to Friday were LB Troy Dye and P Ryan Wright. In some good news, both of these players have been taken off of the report.

We probably won't know more until a few hours before kickoff. If Davenport can't go, that would be a huge blow to this Minnesota pass rush. Without Davenport, D.J. Wonnum would likely step into a larger role.

Davenport was a key free-agent addition by the Vikings this offseason. The edge rusher came over from the New Orleans Saints, signing a one-year, $13M deal with $10M guaranteed. The former first-round pick has yet to have a truly dominant season, but he did have a career-high nine sacks in 2021.

Talent has never been an issue for Davenport, instead, it's been injuries that have held him back. The pass rusher underwent five different surgeries last offseason and has missed at least two games in each of his five NFL seasons.
