The Minnesota Vikings have struck a deal with the Los Angeles Rams to bring in a talented young player.
Per Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have acquired RB Cam Akers from the Rams. It is believed the teams will exchange 2026 draft picks.
Akers is an interesting player. In 2022, it appeared the young back was going to be a key part of future Rams teams. Akers collected 786 rushing yards, seven rushing TDs, and 13 catches for 117 yards.
However, Akers spent a month away from the team last season and expected to be traded at the 2022 deadline. Instead, Akers remained on the team and fell out of favor over the summer. Akers was a healthy scratch against the San Francisco 49ers in week two, with head coach Sean McVay calling it a "coach's decision."
Akers is the definition of a guy who needs a fresh start. Kevin O'Connell and offensive coordinator Wes Phillips were with Akers in Los Angeles, so the team knows what he's capable of.
It will be interesting to see if Akers can provide a spark to a Vikings' rushing attack that has the fewest yards in the league through two weeks. The familiarity with the play caller should help Akers adjust quickly.
The addition of Akers comes on the same day that another rumored option, Kareem Hunt, was scooped up by the Cleveland Browns.
