The Minnesota Vikings added another lethal weapon at the wide receiver position by drafting Jordan Addison with the No. 23 overall selection.
Addison was one of the most dominant receivers in college football over the last few seasons. His route-running abilities mixed with elite speed make him a tough guard wherever he lines up on the field.
Now in an offense with wide receivers Justin Jefferson, K.J. Osborn along with TE T.J. Hockenson, Addison should have an excess of one-on-one opportunities to make plays down the field.
Addison spoke to reporters shortly after he was drafted on Thursday night. When asked whether he had an idea the Vikings were going to take him, Addison revealed that it was certainly no surprise.
“Before I left on (the top-30) visit, they told me that if I fall to them, they were going to make sure that they come and grab me,” Addison said. “When I saw that they were on the clock, I kept checking my phone.”
Another reason for Addison’s excitement has to do with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. Watching from afar, Addison seemed to appreciate the way O’Connell used his offensive stars.
“Just the way he gives playmakers the ball,” Addison said. “They’re never in one spot. They move all over the field, run all kinds of different routes, and really just run the whole route tree. As a receiver, that’s something that you want.”
After losing Adam Thielen to the Carolina Panthers in free agency, the Vikings immediately found a younger replacement with a sky-high ceiling. Addison will provide an immediate spark to the Vikings’ high-flying passing attack in a pivotal year for QB Kirk Cousins.
