The Tennessee Vols started the week off strong, landing a commitment from 2024 five-star defensive end Jordan Ross.

Ross, 6-foot-4/235 lbs from Birmingham, AL, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of of Alabama. He's also rated as the No. 12 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

On Thursday night, Ross showed why he's such a highly coveted recruit.

The Alabama native showed off his elite pass rushing skills in Vestavia Hills' 35-10 win against Mountain Brook by flying through the offensive line and taking down the quarterback.

That's exactly the type of player the Vols need if they're going to compete with Georgia in the SEC. Offense is king right now, but defense is still what wins in December and January. And Ross will certainly provide a championship presence on the defensive side of the ball.

Ross didn't just impress on defense on Thursday, by the way. The talented recruit also caught a touchdown with a leaping grab in the back of the end zone.

Ross' athleticism is evident on that touchdown reception. The quarterback just had to throw it in Ross' general direction and he was able to make the play.

"We've been working on that in practice," said Ross after the game (via VestaviaVoice.com). "I didn't think it was really going to happen, but he called the play. John Paul threw the pass and I caught it."

The Vols appear to have something special in Ross. They'll need to continue to recruit him hard to make sure another program doesn't flip him (other programs won't give up on trying to land him), but otherwise, it's clear that Tennessee is getting a potential game changer in the five-star commit.
