Tennessee's front office under first-year general manager Ran Carthon made a shrewd move by acquiring Dillard on a low-risk, high-reward contract this Spring.
It's becoming increasingly clear that Dillard may be the most important free agent addition in Tennessee this year.
Tennessee's front office under first-year general manager Ran Carthon made a shrewd move by acquiring Dillard on a low-risk, high-reward contract this Spring. The 2019 first-round pick agreed to a three year, $29 million contract with the Titans. Despite limited playing time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dillard hopes to showcase the high-level traits that saw him taken early on in the NFL Draft.
The Titans' success largely hinges on the performance of their star running back, Derrick Henry. The 6'3", 235-pound running back is a force to be reckoned with, but even he needs a sturdy offensive line to pave the way for his explosive runs. Dillard's arrival provides a renewed sense of confidence in the Titans' ability to protect Henry and open up lanes for him to dominate on the ground.
It will be some time before Tennessee and other NFL teams open training camp, and put the pads on.
"A lot of it is just focusing on our technique, our craft," said Dillard of the voluntary work and mandatory minicamp. "It's not so much colliding all the time, but it really gives you a chance to work on your speed, your quickness and your assignments."
Beyond his on-field contributions, Dillard brings a winning mindset and work ethic to the Titans' locker room. Having spent time with the Eagles, he has experienced the highs and lows of the NFL and understands the dedication and perseverance required to succeed. Dillard's addition to the Titans can be a game-changer.
While 2023 first-round choice Peter Skoronski takes the bulk of his professional reps at guard instead of left tackle, Dillard can make Carthon and coach Mike Vrabel's lives much easier by immediately solidifying the position.
