The Tennessee Titans made an addition to their wide receiver room on Thursday by signing Josh Gordon to their practice squad.
Gordon was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this week.
Gordon, a former Baylor standout, has been in the NFL since 2012.
In 2013, Gordon caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns while playing just 14 games. It was one of the best seasons in recent memory by a wide receiver.
Unfortunately, Gordon has dealt with multiple lengthy suspensions during his NFL career. He's missed three entire seasons (2015, 2016, and 2020) due to violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Gordon returned to the NFL last season, catching five passes for 32 yards and a touchdown for the Chiefs.
Despite Gordon's past issues, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid had nothing but great things to say about the 31-year-old wide receiver this week.
“Listen, I’m proud of Josh for all that he did. [It was] a real pleasure to have him here,” said Reid this week.
“There’s a chance that he potentially is back here and if it doesn’t work out somewhere else, but just from a football standpoint but also even the bigger picture of things, he really did a heck of a job," added Reid.
It sounds like the Chiefs were willing to bring Gordon back if another team didn't sign him. He was just in a situation where he was the odd man out.
It's unlikely that Gordon will ever return to his 2013 form. But he's still a physically imposing wide receiver with great speed who could be an elite red-zone target. If he's elevated to the 53-man roster at any point this summer, he could become a dangerous weapon for Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill inside the 20.
