I’m confused. The following two sentences exist in the same article about the same horrible situation written by a typically reputable news outlet…

1.“Alabama’s freshman basketball standout Brandon Miller brought the gun used on the Tuscaloosa strip killing of a 23-year-old mother that led to capital murder charges for his now former teammate Darius Miles and 20-year-old Michael “Buzz” Davis, according to law enforcement testimony today.”

2."Asked by AL.com why Miller was not charged, Tuscaloosa chief deputy D.A. Paula Whitley said, “That’s not a question I can answer. There’s nothing we could charge him with,’' according to the law, she said."

I’m sorry… what now? So if I'm reading this correctly, the cops say that Alabama’s best basketball player allegedly brought the weapon used in an alleged murder to the murder scene and then the Tuscaloosa D.A. says they can’t charge him with anything?

I’m no lawyer but I’ve been under the impression for a long time that if you provide the weapon used in a murder to the murderer that you can also get in some trouble.

For full context, you can read the entire report from AL.com on the court proceedings by clicking here.

Then, there’s this weird (and if Miller actually provided the alleged murder weapon, disturbing) statement from Alabama head basketball coach Nate Oats about Miller’s supposed involvement in the incident…

“Alabama coach Nate Oats said Tuesday that Miller is “not in any trouble” as a result of his alleged involvement.

““We knew about that. Can’t control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time,” Oats said.”

I just… WHAT?!

How can you simply be in the “wrong spot at the wrong time” while allegedly delivering the weapon used in a murder to the alleged murderer? I didn't go to Alabama and I went to college more than 10 years ago but handing out murder weapons to people wasn’t a regular occurrence for anybody I ever met in my time at UTK.

Look, all the facts are not out yet and I don’t know what’s truly going on here or if anything will come of it but, I’d like to hear some clearer answers because Brandon Miller is arguably the best player in college basketball this season. You can't just sweep this under the rug like Nate Oats would obviously like to.  Somebody help me make this make sense.
