Former Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones and almost-UT head coach Greg Schiano badly disrespected the Volunteers this week.

Tennessee finished at No. 6 in the final AP Top 25 poll and at No. 6 in the AFCA coaches poll.

The reason the Vols didn't finish in the top five of the coaches poll is largely because of Jones and Schiano.

The Knoxville News Sentinel's Adam Sparks pointed out on Wednesday that Jones and Schiano both voted Tennessee at No. 7 on their ballots.

Sparks also noted that Alabama head coach Nick Saban voted the Crimson Tide at No. 2 and the Vols at No. 6 (absolutely laughable, right?).

NC State head coach Dave Doeren and Nevada head coach Ken Wilson voted Tennessee at No. 8.

Doeren was also almost hired as Tennessee's head coach at one point. In 2017, after the Vols pivoted away from Schiano, then-Tennessee athletic director John Currie made a run at Doeren.

We know that Doeren was "fired up" to replace Jones at Tennessee, but Currie eventually broke off talks with the NC State head coach.

It seems very obvious that Jones, Schiano, and Doeren let personal bias impact their votes.

The same goes for Saban, though I don't think he has any problems with Tennessee. I just don't think Saban wanted to see the Vols in the top five of any poll.

Ultimately, this shows you why some of these polls are meaningless. I've never understood the need for a coaches poll anyway. These polls are always going to be ripe with bias or ulterior motives.

By the way, Jones finished 3-9 at Arkansas State this season while Schiano finished 4-8 at Rutgers.

The biggest takeaway for Tennessee from these votes should be thankfulness that neither Jones nor Schiano are involved with UT football in any way.
