An elite 2024 four-star quarterback is set to visit the Tennessee Vols this spring.

Jake Merklinger, 6-foot-3/195 lbs from Savannah, GA (Calvary Day School), told 247Sports this week that he plans to visit Tennessee on March 25 (he previously visited UT for the Vols' win against Kentucky last fall, per 247Sports). He also has visits to Michigan State and Georgia planned.

Merklinger is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 7 quarterback in the nation and the No. 11 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 61 overall player in the nation.

Here's some background on Merklinger from 247Sports:

Multi-sport athlete that also plays basketball and lacrosse at the varsity level. Has played baseball throughout his youth, as well. As a sophomore, helped Calvary Day win a regional title on the hardwood … A member of the National Honors Society.

The Vols will look to add a quarterback to their 2024 recruiting class. But with Nico Iamaleava on the roster (he'll be a true freshman this fall) and Cutter Boley standing out as Tennessee's top target in the 2025 recruiting class, landing a quarterback in the 2024 class isn't exactly a "must" for the Vols.
