The Tennessee Vols are one of 10 teams still in the mix to land 2024 five-star edge rusher Jamonta Waller.

Waller is considering Tennessee, along with Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Penn State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Texas A&M.

Waller, 6-foot-2/225 lbs from Picayune, MS, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 5 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Mississippi. He's also rated as the No. 22 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

The talented recruit spoke to 247Sports recently about his recruitment. And he made it clear that he feels like the Vols are planning on becoming the most elite team in the SEC.

“Coach (Brian) Jean-Mary continues to let me know that Tennessee is on the brink of being the most elite team in the SEC and that I could be the difference maker and exactly what they need to make that happen," said Waller to 247Sports.

Tennessee is on a mission. They want to win championships and replace Alabama and Georgia as the kings of the SEC. That's obviously going to take a lot of hard work, but the Vols showed last season that they're making substantial progress toward their goal of being the best team in the conference.

At this point, I'm not sure why anyone would doubt Josh Heupel and his staff — they've delivered on every promise they've made. I wouldn't bet against them.
