ESPN caught some heat this season at various times for their takes on Tennesese Vols football.

But Rece Davis, the host of College GameDay and one of ESPN's faces of their college football coverage, is sure to be loved by Vols fans after where he ranked Tennessee in his final AP Top 25 poll.

Davis has the Vols at No. 4, one spot behind Ohio State and one spot ahead of Alabama (he has TCU at No. 6 after their embarrassing 65-7 loss to Georgia in the national championship game on Monday night).

The majority of voters had the Vols either at No. 5 or No. 6.

Tennessee ended up at No. 6 in the final polls — likely because Notre Dame beat writer Mike Berardino had Tennessee at No. 8 and Alabama at No. 2. Unfortunately, his bias may have prevented the Vols from their first top-five finish since 2001.

I'm not sure how anyone voted Alabama ahead of Tennessee. The Vols beat Alabama head to head and they demolished LSU, the team that gave Bama their other loss.

Tennessee also had better wins than the Crimson Tide.

The fact that Davis, an Alabama alum and one of the biggest names in college football media, voted for Tennessee above the Crimson Tide should completely shut down any debate about Bama being ranked above the Vols.
