The Athletic recently conducted a survey of SEC football fans — asking a variety of questions — and they revealed the results on Wednesday.
One of the questions asked by The Athletic was "who is the most overrated head coach in the SEC?"
The head coach who received the most votes (36.7 percent of the nearly 1,500 fans who responded) was Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher.

Only three other head coaches received more than 10 percent of the vote — LSU's Brian Kelly (18.8 percent), Mississippi State's Mike Leach (14.4 percent), and Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin (11.5 percent).
Before I saw the results, I figure it would be Fisher or Leach.
Fisher makes more sense because he's put on a much higher pedestal than Leach.
The former Florida State head coach is one of the highest-paid coaches in college football (he made $7.5 million this past season). Yet he hasn't done anything remarkable at Texas A&M since arriving in College Station in late 2017. In 2020, during the pandemic season, Fisher and the Aggies went 9-1. Pretty solid.
This past season, however, saw Texas A&M go 8-4 with a loss to LSU and Mississippi State.
That's unacceptable for a head coach making $7.5 million and landing elite recruiting classes.
Sure, Jimbo has a national championship on his resumé that he won at Florida State. But guess what? Gene Chizik and Ed Orgeron have national championships, too. And neither of them are coaching in college football anymore. Fisher's national championship is starting to feel more like it belongs to former Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston instead of Fisher.
The expectation for Fisher in College Station is national titles. And those expectations will only grow with the elite talent that Texas A&M is bringing in.
The only thing that's been impressive about Fisher recently is his ability to deny that Texas A&M is paying recruits (Spoiler: everyone is paying recruits…especially with NIL deals now legal).
Maybe if the Aggies finally win 10 games under Fisher, we can give the most overrated coach title to another SEC coach (Early contenders are Mike Leach and Shane Beamer).
Though based on what I've seen so far from Fisher in the SEC, I wouldn't count on that happening.
