Thanks to a report from the Orlando Sentinel on Wednesday, we now know how much an elite five-star recruit was going to be paid to sign with the Florida Gators.
News broke on Wednesday that five-star quarterback Jaden Rashada, who signed with the Gators last month, is trying to get out of his national letter of intent with Florida.
The reason for this, according to a report from The Orlando Sentinel's Edgar Thompson, is that a lucrative NIL deal between a Florida collective and Rashada wasn't honored.
Rashada, who flipped from Miami to Florida back in November (presumably because of the NIL deal), was set to be paid $13 million to sign with Florida according to Thompson's report.
Thompson also noted that a source told him the situation between Rashada and Florida is "beyond repair".
What is clear is that California high school star Rashada had been expected to enroll Monday after coming to Gainesville from Orlando following the Jan. 3 Under Armour Next All-America game at Camping World Stadium.
Instead, Rashada returned home to Pittsburg, a suburb of San Francisco, after a NIL agreement for around $13 million was not honored, a source told The Orlando Sentinel.
Rashada's father told 247Sports on Wednesday evening, after multiple reports indicated otherwise, that his son hasn't requested a release from Florida.
Due to conflicting reports, it's hard to know exactly what's happening with the Rashada situation. But where there's smoke, there's usually fire.
And we do know one thing for sure — Rashada was supposed to be at Florida by now and he's not. So there's definitely a hold-up and it would make sense that it's NIL related. Whether or not Rashada eventually ends up at Florida is anyone's guess at this point.
We'll see how this plays out — considering the transfer portal closes on January 18 it shouldn't take long — but it certainly appears that Florida could be in serious danger of losing its top-rated player from the 2023 recruiting class.
