Tennessee Vols redshirt senior quarterback Joe Milton finally got the respect he deserves this week.
And it came from an unlikely source.
Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback turned college football analyst Aaron Murray suggested this week on Sirius XM radio that Milton is the most gifted quarterback in the nation.
"Joe is the most talented quarterback in America…he's the most gifted quarterback in America," said Murray. "He has the best arm. He is extremely athletic. I mean the dude can you know, dunk a basketball like it's nothing. I'm watching pregame last year — I had one of their games — and all the quarterbacks are doing all this crazy stuff, having fun before the game and he's jumping up and catching one-handers in the back of the endzone. Dunking it over the damn goalpost. He's a great athlete. And he's a gigantic human being and can throw the ball 80-plus yards. So yeah, I think he's the most gifted quarterback in America. Doesn't make you the best quarterback. Like once again, Anthony Richardson is the most gifted quarterback right now heading into this draft. Does that make him the best quarterback? Does that make him a for sure NFL superstar?"
"He (Milton) can throw the ball better than anyone," added Murray. "And we all know his measurables and how athletic he is. [But that] doesn't make you a Pro Bowler. So that's two different things. Joe Milton — most gifted quarterback in America. We'll see if it translates now into potential All-American status."
I think that's more than fair from Murray. Milton deserves the same hype as players like Anthony Richardson and Will Levis. But Milton also has to go out and prove he can be a great quarterback.
So far, it appears that he'll be able to show everyone in 2023 that he's an elite SEC quarterback who can be a first-round pick, but again, he still has to prove it this fall.
