The Tennessee Vols baseball team has opened plenty of eyes this year thanks to their swagger and 47-7 record.
On Thursday night, the Vols made their biggest statement of the year, beating Mississippi State — the defending champions — 27-2 in Starkville.
The beatdown of Mississippi State led a former LSU baseball star to make a bold proclamation about Tennessee baseball.
Todd Walker, a former MLB infielder who was the College World Series' most outstanding player for LSU in 1993, said on Thursday after watching the Vols' big win that Tennessee could be the best college baseball team of all time.
It might be a stretch to call Tennessee the best college baseball team of all time. The most important part of the season has yet to take place yet.
But if the Vols manage to win the SEC Tournament and win their first College World Series, then I think it will be a fair conversation to have.
I'm sure Tennessee's players and head coach Tony Vitello would agree. Winning it all is their ultimate goal and if they fall short, they certainly won't have any interest in being called the greatest college baseball team of all time.
