Former Tennessee Vols linebacker AJ Johnson is back in the NFL after spending most of the offseason as a free agent.

Johnson, who was a standout linebacker at Tennessee from 2011 to 2014, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos.

In 2021, Johnson suffered a torn pec that forced him to miss the majority of the season.

The former Vol signed with the Seattle Seahawks midway through the 2022 season, but he played in just one game (he had three tackles in his one appearance last season).

On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins announced that they've signed Johnson to a free agent deal.

Johnson also posted a photo of himself on Instagram in Dolphins gear.

Johnson totaled 249 tackles, 4.5 sacks and an interception during his four seasons with the Broncos.

The former Tennessee linebacker's NFL career got off to a delayed start due to legal issues.

Johnson was suspended from UT's football team in 2014 amid accusations of rape. The Georgia native was indicted on aggravated rape charges in 2015. Johnson and a former UT teammate, Michael Williams, were acquitted of all charges in 2018. Johnson was signed by the Broncos shortly after the acquittal.
