NBC Sports' Peter King noted this week that former Tennessee Vols Josh Dobbs, who is currently starting at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, is part of one of the more bizarre oddities in the NFL this season.
King pointed out in his weekly Football Morning in America column on Monday how Dobbs managed to knock off a Dallas Cowboys team in Week 3 that started the season looking unbeatable.
The game between Dallas and Arizona in Week 3 wasn't supposed to be close. The Cowboys, after winning their first two games of the season by a combined 60 points, were expected to blow out the Cardinals.
But Dobbs and the Cardinals slowed the Cowboys' freight train of momentum via a 28-16 win.
The fact that Dobbs beat the Cowboys isn't that bizarre. Sure, it was a big upset. And Dobbs was an unlikely quarterback to be in that role (it was only his fifth career NFL start). But things like that happen from time to time in the NFL.
What makes it bizarre is what happened in Week 4 (which is what King mentioned in his column).
The Cowboys rebounded from their loss to Dobbs and Arizona by absolutely destroying Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.
New England's 38-3 loss to the Cowboys was the worst loss of Belichick's career.
How wild is it that Dobbs, in just his fifth career NFL start, beat a Cowboys team that has now won three games by a combined 95 points while Belichick, one of the greatest head coaches of all-time, seemingly had no answer for Dallas.
This is just another example of what makes football, and sports in general, so great. You never know when it might be your day.
