A former Tennessee Vols standout was released this week less than two months after signing an undrafted free-agent deal.
Former Vols running back Tiyon Evans went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. But he quickly signed an undrafted free-agent deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
Evans, who transferred to Louisville after the 2021 season, was released on Wednesday.
Evans was always going to have an uphill climb to make an NFL roster.
The South Carolina native showed his explosiveness at Tennessee, specifically during a game against Missouri in 2021 in which Evans rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
Evans, however, leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to his versatility. He's not an elite blocker and his skills in the passing game are average at best. Evans simply didn't have enough to offer to stick on the Rams' roster throughout the summer.
The former Vol should receive some more chances as players deal with injuries through the summer, but Evans doesn't appear to be a player that's going to play a key role for an NFL squad.
