Former Tennessee Vols outfielder Drew Gilbert was a fan favorite during his time in Knoxville. Part of that was due to his on-field ability and talent. The other was his demeanor and leadership for an energetic Vols roster that saw plenty of success and excitement. That characteristic hasn't left him as he makes his pro journey.

Recently, he was dealt to the New York Mets organization. Gilbert was drafted by the Houston Astros originally but headed to The Big Apple in a blockbuster trade. Now, he will look to work his way up their minor league system to grab a spot in the bigs. He refuses to settle with any aspect of his game. The former Vols star is always focused on improving and avoiding a plateau.

Gilbert knows that his dreams won't be easy. Making an MLB roster is a task that few players do, and he want to make a major impact for the Mets in the future.

Accordingly, he wants to keep working hard at his craft in order to beat out others that are jockeying for a spot at the top level of baseball. Being a draft pick or intriguing prospect isn't enough to take the determination out of the sails for the former Tennessee leader.
