The Tennessee Titans are getting the first swing at signing DeAndre Hopkins, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday the All-Pro wideout is meeting with the team on Sunday.
And star defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons is wasting absolutely zero time trying to get Hopkins to stay in Nashville for a lot longer than his scheduled meeting.
"I didn't know until today and of course I already took to the DMs like, 'Come on with it, you already know what's up,'" Simmons said on the most recent episode of NFL Total Access. "I know the type of player he is [after] playing against him and getting ready to play against him. You just watch the film and [you're like], 'OK, DeAndre Hopkins, DeAndre Hopkins – that's the guy we've gotta stop.' Everyone has a lot of respect for Hopkins.
"He's been around the game for a long time and his playmaking ability and I'm sure just his leadership and what type of teammate he is are the reasons why everyone wants him on their team. I'd love him on our team…it'd be great to have him on our team to help us avoid rebuilding and get some wins this year."
With all due respect to the current receiver room, it's obvious Hopkins represents a major upgrade over what the Titans currently have on deck. He has both inside and outside versatility and his hands are still some of the NFL's best.
There is risk with Hopkins, however. For starters, he's 31-years-old and injuries have caused him to miss nine games over the last two seasons. Plus, there's the six-game suspension he served last year for violating the NFL's PED policy.
Regardless, it's easy to see why Titans players like Simmons would be ecstatic to have Hopkins on the roster and he'd be a much-needed shot in the arm as the team heads into a crucial 2023 season.
