Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton made a comment on Thursday at SEC Media Days in Nashville that should scare every defensive back on UT's schedule in 2023.

While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Milton was asked specifically about sophomore wide receiver Squirrel White and what improvements he's seen from the Alabama native this offseason.

Milton immediately said that he thinks White has gotten faster since last season.

"I feel like he got faster," said Milton when asked about White. "Yeah, I feel like he got faster."

"He wants to get better," added Milton. "Obviously he's young, but at the same time, he wants to get better. He practices like a pro. He goes through meetings like a pro. If he doesn't know [something], he'll ask."

White was already one of the fastest players in the SEC. The former three-star recruit told DawgNation in 2021 that he ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.3 range while in high school.

“He is the fastest kid I have ever coached,” said White's high school coach, Drew Gilmer in 2021.

White told the Knoxville News Sentinel in 2022 that he was clocked via GPS running 23.6 MPH. The fastest speed by a player in the NFL last season, per NexGen Stats, was 22.11 MPH (Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell).

White would be the fastest player in the NFL if he entered the league right now. And if he's going to be even faster in 2023 like Milton suggested on Thursday, then I'm not sure if there's a defensive back in the college game that will stand a chance at keeping up with White.

When you combine White's elite speed with Milton's elite arm strength, it's easy to see why defensive backs should be a little nervous when thinking about playing the Vols.

There's no good defense for high-level elite speed. Defensive coordinators can scheme all they want, but it's unlikely any of their guys are winning a foot race with White.

I have a feeling that Tennessee fans are going to see even more deep throws this season than they did last season with Hendon Hooker and Jalin Hyatt.

And that's an exciting thought for the Vols considering how successful Hooker and Hyatt were on deep throws in 2022.
