Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel met with the media on Thursday for the final time before UT's game against the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge this weekend.
Heupel was asked about the status of wide receiver Cedric Tillman ahead of the LSU game.
Tillman missed the Vols' win against Florida on September 24 after suffering an ankle injury against Akron the previous week.
The talented wide receiver had a "tightrope" procedure done on his ankle which is supposed to expedite his return to the field.
Heupel, however, wouldn't say on Thursday whether or not Tillman will be good to go for the LSU game.
Instead, Tennessee's second-year head coach said the Vols will make a decision on Tillman's status on Friday.
This isn't a surprise — I don't think anyone expected Heupel to reveal Tillman's status on Thursday.
I tend to think, though, that Tillman will sit this one out. It seems much more likely that we see him for the Alabama game on October 15. There's no point in rushing him back and possibly losing him for longer.
Of course, it helps that Ramel Keyton stepped up in Tillman's absence and proved to be a capable replacement. Keyton's emergence makes it easier to sit Tillman one more week.
We'll see how they line up on Saturday, but I'd be surprised if Tillman plays.
