ESPN College GameDay host Kirk Herbstreit is once again showing his anti-Tennessee Vols bias.
Herbstreit seemingly always picks against Tennessee (except on Saturday, when he begrudgingly picked the Vols to win). And he's consistently overly critical of the program (anyone remember Schiano Sunday?).
We got a great example of this on Sunday morning.
After the Vols' loss to the Bulldogs, Herbstreit tweeted out his top six College Football Playoff rankings.
And he had Tennessee at No. 6 behind Oregon at No. 4 and TCU at No. 5.
This isn't just bad, it's almost hilarious.
Tennessee and Oregon both have one loss and it came against the same team. Tennessee's loss to Georgia was by 14 in Athens. Oregon's loss to the Bulldogs was by 46 in Atlanta (still a most pro-Georgia crowd, but not like playing in Sanford Stadium in the biggest game of the century).
The Vols' have wins against Pittsburgh (on the road), Florida, LSU (on the road), Alabama, and Kentucky.
All of those teams were ranked when Tennessee played them. And LSU will likely move up to around No. 6 or No. 7 this week in the AP poll.
The Vols' resumé isn't significantly better than Oregon's. No one who follows college football and lives east of the Mississippi legitimately thinks Oregon should be ranked above Tennessee.
(As for TCU, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now since they're undefeated, but that will need to be revisited in late November.)
Herbstreit, for whatever reason, can't stand the Vols. And that's essentially been confirmed by his embarrassing CFP rankings.
Fortunately for the Vols, Herbstreit has nothing to do with how the committee will view the rankings.
