The entire sports world shook this past weekend.

It began with reports that Mississippi State football head coach Mike Leach was hospitalized and in critical condition. The outpour of stories, passion, and sadness only continued when it was announced that Leach passed away on Tuesday morning.

Leach was one of the most well-known, beloved figures in the history of college football.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had always shared a special relationship with Leach. They were both quirky, fun personalities in two different, unique ways. Regardless, Kiffin cared a lot for Leach and his work in the sport of football.

The statement from Kiffin was heartfelt.

He was one of so many coaches to make a statement regarding Leach. You could feel how many lives the coach touched during his time in college football. Many top coaches in the country like Josh Heupel and Lincoln Reilly are proteges of Leach.

The former Mississippi State coach had stops along the way at Texas Tech, Washington State, and Kentucky. His scheme reached hundreds of schools, though. Leach was one of the first coaches to run the "Air Raid" offense at an extremely high level.

Now, many of the top offenses in the country run a style of that scheme in some shape or form.

There have been so many stories dropping in the last few days about Leach as a person as well. He was kind and caring. He never stopped putting in effort for others, no matter his relationship with them.

Kiffin's words about Leach represent how so many people felt about one of the greatest football coaches to step on a collegiate field.
