Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is hoping to hear his name called on Thursday night when the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft gets underway.
Hyatt declared for the draft after a breakout junior season that saw him catch 67 passes for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The South Carolina native put himself on the national radar with an impressive stat line in Tennessee's 52-49 win over Alabama. Hyatt caught six passes for 207 yards and five touchdowns against the Crimson Tide.
Hyatt has popped up in the first round in numerous mock drafts during the pre-draft process. But over the last couple of weeks, he's been slipping to the second round more often in mock drafts.
Nothing's happened in the last few weeks that's caused Hyatt to slide, which tells me that this is likely just teams putting misinformation out there in an effort to throw other teams off. It's something that's pretty common in the days/weeks leading up to the draft.
The good news for Hyatt is that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Wednesday that he's hearing that the former Vols superstar wide receiver could still be selected in the first round of the draft.
From ESPN: When I asked execs which surprise names could vault into the first round, three that came up were Syracuse offensive tackle Matt Bergeron, Tennessee receiver Jalin Hyatt and Michigan cornerback DJ Turner.
I'm sure Hyatt would love to go high in the first round, but the best landing spot for him is still with the Kansas City Chiefs, who have the No. 31 overall selection (the last pick in the first round due to the Miami Dolphins forfeiting their first-round selection). Playing in the Chiefs' innovative offense alongside Patrick Mahomes would be the perfect scenario for Hyatt.
