The Miami Hurricanes are attempting to hire Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal, despite the fact they haven't fired their current head coach Manny Diaz.
Miami's plan is to hire Cristobal, a Miami native and former Hurricanes offensive lineman, to lead the program in 2022.
If the deal to hire Cristobal falls through, Miami is prepared to retain Diaz.
Sounds really shady, right?
That's because it is.
But before you start feeling bad for Diaz, let's not forget that he completely screwed over the Temple football program a few years ago.
In late 2018, Diaz, who was then the defensive coordinator at Miami, left South Beach to become the head coach at Temple.
18 days later, when Mark Richt suddenly resigned from his position as the Hurricanes' head coach, Diaz left Temple and replaced Richt at Miami.
During those 18 days, Diaz signed 17 players to Temple's 2019 recruiting class. And then he ditched them.
Diaz took the job at Temple, but saw something he liked better at Miami. So he tossed Temple to the side and took the Miami job.
Right now, Miami sees something they like better in Cristobal. And they're prepared to toss Diaz to the side to hire Cristobal.
What goes around, comes around.
