Mike Vrabel had to defend some questionable decisions on Friday. The Titans fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football after several calls left fans scratching their heads.

The first questionable call happened at the end of the first half. The game was tied at 10 and the Titans had the ball at their own 25. Will Levis drove the team all the way to the Pittsburgh 19.

Instead of taking one more shot to the end zone, Vrabel went conservative and dialed up a run. Instead of potentially adding seven, the Titans settled for a field goal.

Vrabel was asked about the decision on Friday morning.

"Instead of making what would have been a costly mistake, I felt like taking the lead on the road, and ensuring that to happen, on 3rd & 10, was the right decision."

That's an interesting route for the head coach to take. Instead of trusting his playmakers to make a play, Vrabel decided that they would likely mess it up and end up with no points.

In the fourth quarter, Vrabel made another curious decision. With the Titans down four and having four minutes to go in the game, the coach dialed up three consecutive runs. On the 3rd & 4, with the game on the line, Vrabel dialed up a run to Tyjae Spears that gained nothing. The team would end up turning the ball over on downs.

"You can say 'settling', for not scoring touchdowns, but I'm just trying to weigh the best way to try to win the football game," Vraabel explained. "I just felt like that was what was best for us at that time."

The Titans ended up losing by four points, which makes the conservative run calls even more frustrating. The Titans had chances to win and they let them slip away.

The Titans now have over a week to prepare for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
