Nashville native Lucas Patrick, an offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers, had a perfect answer this week when he was asked by a reporter how he deals with criticism.

Patrick suggested that everyone has an "emotional bank account" with people. He then said there are deposits and withdrawals from that "emotional bank account".

Essentially, Patrick said he's ok with taking criticism as long as he knows and trusts the person. He doesn't question their motives if they've made deposits to his emotional bank account.

Here's the video of Patrick's comments.

This is great advice for anyone that's on either side of criticism. If you're the one being criticized, it's important to understand where it's coming from. And if you're the one being critical, then it's important to understand that always criticizing someone without making an emotional bank account deposit probably isn't a great approach.

Folks should listen to Patrick's advice — he's absolutely correct.
