The Tennessee Vols will open the 2023 regular season where they ended the 2022 regular season — in Nashville.

Tennessee is set to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on September 2 in Nashville at Nissan Stadium, the home of the Tennessee Titans.

This will be the Vols' third game in Nashville since the start of the 2021 season (the 2021 Music City Bowl and a road game against Vanderbilt in 2022 were the other matchups).

On Monday, 247Sports predicted the winner of the biggest games in Week One of the 2023 College Football Season.

And unsurprisingly, they have Tennessee taking care of business against Virginia.

The spread for the Vols' matchup against the Cavaliers is currently -29.

247Sports has Tennessee covering via a 45-7 win.

From 247Sports: Virginia struggled on both sides of the ball last season and lost its top player in the secondary, Fentrell Cypress, to Florida State in the portal this cycle. Not good. By now, you've seen Joe Milton's recent 80-yard throw on the summer circuit and he is one of the nation's most polarizing quarterbacks entering the season. Josh Heupel's offense should be relentless in this one at Nissan Stadium and produce as many fireworks as it wants. In a 45-7 shellacking, the Volunteers cover.

One interesting side story with this matchup is that Virginia head coach Tony Elliott was reportedly a coach that Tennessee was interested in before hiring Josh Heupel to replace Jeremy Pruitt in early 2021.

Heupel has gone 18-8 since taking over as the Vols' head coach two years ago. Elliott went 3-7 in his first season at Virginia.
